Empowering the Next Generation: Tech Workshop for Secondary School Girls in Ibadan

A few weeks ago, Women Too Africa, in collaboration with Black Girls In Tech Nigeria, came together to do something special for young girls in Secondary School in Ibadan, Nigeria. We believe that the tech age has arrived to stay, and it’s absolutely crucial that our girls are equipped with the skills and knowledge to thrive in this rapidly evolving world. At BGIT, we are deeply committed to laying a strong foundation in tech for these girls, and we believe the key to unlocking their potential is through teaching them basic tech skills that will inspire confidence and spark curiosity.

During this workshop, we had the opportunity to guide the students through hands-on learning in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. These tools are not just essential for schoolwork, but they are fundamental skills that open doors to future opportunities, whether in academia, the workplace, or entrepreneurial ventures. The girls were shown how to create documents, format text, and design presentations that are both professional and visually engaging. These basic skills are powerful stepping stones toward fostering their digital literacy and allowing them to take control of their tech journey.

As we watched their faces light up with excitement as they explored these new tools, we were reminded of how important it is to introduce girls to tech at an early age. By teaching them the basics of document creation and presentation design, we hope to spark their curiosity, boost their confidence, and ignite a passion for technology that will last a lifetime.

We’re incredibly proud of the impact this workshop had, and we’re excited to continue supporting young girls in Ibadan and beyond. Through initiatives like this, we’re helping to create a future where girls are not just consumers of technology, but creators, innovators, and leaders in the tech space.

A big thank you to Women Too Africa for partnering with us and making this event a reality. Together, we’re shaping the future of young girls in tech!
